Thursdays at the Newman Center have been designated
a day of service; meaning that from 1:00PM to 7:00PM we head out
into West Chester and volunteer our time at several places to give
back to the community. Any amount of time you can volunteer for our
Day of Service is greatly appreciated. The next time you make your
class schedule consider leaving some free time to come out and help
us volunteer on Thursdays.
The following is the Day of
Service schedule for the 2011-2012 academic year:
- 11:00 - 1:00PM: St. Agnes Day Room
-
Watching children, helping clean up, stocking
shelves, etc.
- 2:00 - 4:00PM: Second Reading II
-
Helping a bookstore run by Senior Center to
stock shelves, do inventory, and other miscellaneous
tasks.
- 1:00 - 3:00PM: Sunrise Assisted Living
-
Doing activities with residence suffering from
dementia. Can be a wide range of activities - MUST fill out a
volunteer page in order to volunteer.
If you
show up in the middle of an activity that is fine as long as you are
able to get to your location on your own. In most cases there will
be someone there to drive you if you are leaving on time and without
a car, but please contact us so that we can make those arrangements!
If you plan on going to an activity which is off campus
please arrive at least ten minutes early so we do not keep our
locations waiting. If you are interested please contact us with
your:
- Name
- Time you are available (example: 11-12 a.m. 2-3 p.m.)
- Email
- Phone Number
You can call us during our operating
hours at 610-436-0891, or email Father Nordeman at
fathernordeman@yahoo.com.
As always please check our monthly
calendar for other service oppertunities
that we may be doing outside of the Day of Service activities.
CNSA is always looking for
more ways to get involved in community service. We welcome
suggestions, as well as ideas for partnering with other campus
groups doing service. If you are involved in volunteer work outside
the Newman Center, please tell us so that we can consider tithing
that charity.
